Tatyana Leist BPsy Hons, MFP

Hello there! I'm a friendly and empathetic Australian psychologist based in Toulouse in the south of France. I work online with English speakers from all over France, and specialise in the various challenges faced by expats. I have a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of NSW in Sydney, and this training allows me to understand and treat a broad spectrum of mental health difficulties and disorders that many people face. I am fully registered to practise both in France and Australia.

Before moving to Europe, I gained years of experience working as a psychologist in government institutions, where I witnessed time and again people's resilience in extremely challenging circumstances. I also gained a deep understanding of the effects of trauma and adversity and how therapy can help in recovery.

I view therapy as a collaboration and a relationship and believe it’s important to find a therapist you have a positive connection with. In therapy, as in life, I value diversity, compassion and autonomy. I have great respect for people of all ethnicities, genders, neurotypes, sexualities, social, cultural and linguistic backgrounds. No matter who you are, I aim to provide a space where you will be heard and understood.

I am happy to work with most mental health issues and have a particular interest in:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety & OCD

  • Trauma-related mental health difficulties

  • Stress & burnout

  • Difficulties adjusting to life in France

  • Insomnia

  • Relationship & interpersonal problems

  • Addiction (substances, internet, gambling, etc.)

  • Attention & concentration issues, such as ADHD

  • Grief & loss

  • Self-esteem issues

  • Legal problems

  • Personality issues

My approach to therapy is integrative, and I tailor treatment to meet the needs of each patient. I have trained and practised in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Psychotherapy and Mindfulness-based therapy. My approach is led by attachment theory and is trauma-informed, valuing principles of safety, choice, trust, collaboration and empowerment.

I would consider it a privilege to be able to support you with whatever you’re struggling with, and look forward to meeting you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a session cost?

Our standard fee at the Paris Psychology Centre is 155€. Most people have weekly sessions, but less regular sessions are also possible, and just as effective in the long run. Session length is 50 minutes. â€‹

  • Does online therapy work as well as in person?

There has been a lot of research into this question over the past decade, and all indicators are that online therapy is just as effective as attending in person. If you're used to seeing someone face-to-face, it can take a few minutes to adjust, but then you can expect all the same benefits as from regular therapy.

  • How do I pay for sessions?

You can pay online with your credit card, and a link will be sent to pay via credit card after the session. We use Stripe, which is the most secure payment platform in the world. Direct deposit via bank transfer is also possible.

  • Will my insurance cover the sessions?

Many of our patients have their sessions reimbursed with private insurance (mutuelle). Psychology sessions are not covered under government healthcare (carte vitale) in France. A sample of the insurers we currently work with includes:
