Kathy Martin BSc, MCP

I am a British child psychologist who has lived in France for more than two decades. During these years, I have experienced first-hand all the challenges of negotiating the French education system, bringing up bilingual kids, and building a fulfilling life for one’s family in a different culture.

I also have a broad range of experience with children and families as a psychologist. I have worked at an antenatal clinic with expecting mothers, a mother-baby unit, a Maison des Adolescents and as international school counsellor at the European School of Strasbourg.

My work with infants has taught me the fundamental importance of providing a securely attached base for therapy – whether with children, adults, or family groups. As such, empathy, compassion and a non-judgemental attitude are key to my practice as a therapist. I also provide couples therapy to help people build strong, fulfilling relationships.

I have a BSc Hons in Psychology from the University of Exeter and a Masters in Clinical Psychology and Psychopathology from the University of Strasbourg. I am trained in Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Psychotherapy informed by Attachment Theory and Polyvagal Theory (a type of Somatic Psychology). I am also a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction instructor.

I draw on the latest research in psychology, neuroscience and contemplative practice, and adopt an integrative approach with patients. I believe it is important that all aspects of a situation are carefully considered in order to tailor the right therapy for each person.
